For the one who lit up every room
Some mothers fill a room the moment they walk in. Maʻo hau hele, the native yellow hibiscus, is the official flower of Hawaiʻi. It is rare in the wild today, so every plant in a home garden is a small act of care.
Each flower opens for a day, and the plant keeps making more. Plant it for her, and let the sunshine keep coming.
Caring for your plant
- Full sun.
- Water regularly, in soil that drains well.
- Check under the leaves now and then for small pests.
Each plant is about two to three feet tall when you take it home.
