Memorial Trees Valley of the Temples

Our story

Memorial Trees began with a simple idea: a memorial can grow. Instead of only visiting a place to remember someone, you can plant something at home that carries their memory, and watch it bloom.

Rooted in Oʻahu

Every plant we offer is a Hawaiian favorite, sourced from a local grower and sized at about two to three feet, so it is easy to carry home from the market. Each one carries a story from Hawaiʻi and is chosen for a different kind of love: a grandmother, a father, a mother, a partner, a young one gone too soon.

Since 1963, families from across the island have come to Valley of the Temples Memorial Park in Kāneʻohe to remember the people they love. As the sponsor of Memorial Trees, the Valley of the Temples brings that same care out into our community, to the farmers market where neighbors gather.

Plant a tree in a native forest

If you cannot plant at home, the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative lets you sponsor a native Hawaiian Legacy Tree in memory of someone you love. Each tree comes with a certificate showing its ID number and GPS location. Sponsor a Legacy Tree.
